Seven days in Fiji works best with two well-chosen bases.
This plan treats seven days as six nights: spend nights 1–3 in Denarau or on the Coral Coast, nights 4–6 in the Mamanuca Islands, then return to the mainland for a Day 7 departure only when the confirmed ferry and flight times leave a safe margin.
If your flights leave fewer than seven full days on the ground, remove a change of base rather than compressing every stop. Transfer days take time, and the simplest itinerary is often the one that feels most like a holiday.
The seven-day shape
Days 1–3: use one western mainland base for arrival, beach time and a local outing.
Days 4–6: add three Mamanuca nights, or keep one mainland base for an easier week.
Day 7: return and depart only with a safe confirmed connection; otherwise return on Day 6.
Days 1–3: use one mainland base
Choose Nadi when airport proximity is the priority, Denarau for compact resort and marina logistics, or the Coral Coast for a mainland beach base. Night 1 follows the international arrival; nights 2 and 3 provide two usable days without another check-out. Do not rely on an ambitious same-day boat connection unless the operator confirms that the flight, road transfer and check-in deadline work together.
Use the mainland days without overfilling them
Denarau suits travellers who value compact resort facilities, dining and marina access. The Coral Coast suits those who want a more spread-out mainland beach stay with access to Sigatoka and road-based experiences. Keep arrival day light, allow one full day for swimming or resort time, then choose one cultural, nature or coastal outing rather than building a checklist.
Days 4–6: add three island nights
The Mamanuca Islands are a natural island addition because they have regular western access and a broad mix of stay styles. Nights 4–6 create two full island days around the transfer days. Before selecting a stay, check the correct marina, check-in deadline, luggage rules, meal arrangements and return connection. If a Day 7 ferry does not leave a comfortable flight margin, return on Day 6 and use the final night near Nadi or Denarau instead.
An easier family variation
For younger children, limited mobility or a late arrival, use one or two nights in Nadi or Denarau and spend the remaining nights in one mainland region. An optional Mamanuca day trip can provide island time without another check-out. This is a lower-friction recommendation, not a claim that outer-island stays are unsuitable for families.
A Yasawa-focused variation
Travellers who value a more remote island experience can use a mainland arrival night followed by one longer Yasawa stay. The ferry journey can occupy a substantial part of the day, so a mainland connection night and a safe return buffer matter. Check the current ferry route, compulsory meal costs, payment options and the final-flight connection before confirming the room.
Book in the order that protects the trip
Start with international flights and current Australian travel advice. Choose the region sequence next, then confirm any ferry or flight that controls the route. Compare accommodation only after transfers, meals and cancellation terms are visible. Activities come last, once the base and genuine leisure days are clear.

Easy western base
Denarau for nights 1–3 or an easier full week
Use Denarau when compact logistics and Port Denarau access support the itinerary better than a longer mainland road transfer.
Best for: Arrival ease, resort facilities and a possible Mamanuca connection
Check first: Check meals, room configuration, beach expectations and the transfer to any island service.
